Special Effects

November 9th, 2009

I have mixed feelings about this song. I feel the same as the day I beat Marvel vs. Capcom on a single quarter; I feel proud of my accomplishment, but just as easily I feel embarrassed.

I won’t say much more. I’ll just admit to using auto-tune on my voice and a warranty card for the lyrics.

The other day I realized that once you post a song on the blog, I hear it 95% less than the week before you upload it… I kind of miss hearing this one over and over and over again. While the auto-tuner is a bit of a novelty, it’s fun when it isn’t just a tool lazily used to turn a boring song into something more interesting (ironically enough, making the song even more boring). But, like everyone on Facebook said, the instrumentation in this one really makes it all happen. The trumpet is so good, man.

I really like this one. The piano is beautiful and the weird tremolo-ish guitar really adds to it. This one’s really full and I like to dissect songs by listening to each individual instrument, so I’ll have to listen to it a few more times.

I had fun with this one, although now that it’s been a week since I’ve uploaded it I wanted to tinker with it more. I like the music but I don’t like any of the singing. The other night I started working on a different version, stripping half the instruments away and replacing my vocals with audio clips from an old Jack Kerouac interview.

Oh wow, that sounds so cool. I really hope you put that one up!
